Evaluations

Whether you’re a parent concerned about your child’s struggles in school, or an adult who has spent years wondering why certain things have always felt harder than they should—an evaluation can provide the clarity you need to move forward.

At Desert Rain Health and Wellbeing, evaluations aren’t just tests. They’re a comprehensive process led by Dr. Neil Stafford—a licensed psychologist with 20+ years of experience as a clinical and school psychologist and 6 years as a special education director. That means your evaluation report is written to get results—whether that’s in the classroom, the workplace, or at home.

We Evaluate Children, Teens & Adults

Many people assume that because we work with children and teens, we don’t see adults. We do. ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities don’t disappear when you turn 18. Many adults were never evaluated as children, or their earlier evaluations no longer reflect who they are today. Whether you’re 10 or 50, we’re here to help you understand how your brain works and what support looks like for you.

What We Evaluate

Attention-Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

ADHD affects focus, organization, impulse control, and the ability to follow through—and it looks different in every person. In children, it may show up as difficulty staying on task in school, constant fidgeting, or trouble completing homework. In adults, ADHD often looks like chronic procrastination, difficulty managing time, restlessness, or a pattern of starting projects but not finishing them. Many adults with undiagnosed ADHD have spent years developing workarounds without realizing there’s a reason things feel so hard.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Autism affects how a person perceives and interacts with the world around them—particularly in areas of social communication, sensory processing, and behavioral patterns. In children, signs may include difficulty reading social cues, intense focus on specific interests, sensitivity to sounds or textures, or challenges with transitions and changes in routine. In adults, autism is frequently missed or misdiagnosed. Many adults seek evaluation after recognizing themselves in descriptions of autism and wanting a clearer understanding of their experiences.

Learning Disabilities

& Dyslexia

Learning disabilities affect how the brain processes information, making reading, writing, or math significantly harder despite average or above-average intelligence. Dyslexia (the most common learning disability) impacts reading fluency, decoding, and spelling. Other learning disabilities can affect written expression or mathematical reasoning. An evaluation identifies the specific nature of the difficulty and provides a roadmap for the right support.

Personality Assessments

Sometimes the question isn't about ADHD, autism, or a learning disability — it's about understanding the deeper patterns in how you think, feel, and relate to others. Personality assessments can help clarify emotional and behavioral patterns, identify underlying factors contributing to anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties, and inform more effective treatment planning.
